會議上聽到了一個好玩有趣的想法，Mike就順口說了，It’s very funny! 這時提案人露出尷尬的表情，說：What’s so funny about my idea?
Mike的意思其實是要說，”It’s fun.”而不是”It’s funny.”
fun和funny都是跟開心有關，不過fun是你「享受、覺得有趣」的事情，讓你興奮的事，例如：運動；funny是讓你「想笑」的事情，例如看搞笑片或是形容一個人很好笑、幽默，但如果你說別人說的事很funny（好笑），可能容易讓人誤會有「很可笑」，甚至是「難以理解、奇怪」之意。
Fun=things you enjoy
-There are lots of fun things to do here. 這裡有很多有趣的事可以做。
-Hanging out with friends is fun. 和朋友出去玩很開心。
-Scuba diving is fun. 水肺潛水很有趣。
Funny=things make you laugh/feel weird
在日常中表達不合邏輯、詭異的時候，也可以用funny
-It’s a really funny film. 這是一部十分好笑的電影。
-Her mom has got some funny ideas about how to discipline children.她媽媽在管教孩子方面有些奇思妙想。
-My laptop is making a funny noise again. 我的筆電又發出奇怪的聲音了。
-"Did you eat my last piece of chocolate brownie?" 你吃了我最後一塊巧克力布朗尼了嗎？
"No, I didn't." 我沒有
"Hmm, that's funny, I saw it this morning." 奇怪了，我早上才看到的
表達生氣，要人正經的時候也可以用funny
-Breaking your arms isn't funny (= it is serious). 摔斷手可不是好玩的。
-Stop it, it’s not funny! 停，這不好玩！
形容身體不適也可以用funny
-I’ve been feeling a bit funny all day. 我整天都覺得身體不舒服。
英文裡有不少一字多義的情況，那我們來看一組「很像一義多字」的單字：Famous和Popular。這兩個字其實不能完全畫上等號。
famous表示「很多人知道」，不見得是正面；popular表示「很多人喜歡」，多屬正面。
famous（知名）的人，不見得popular（受歡迎）。
-Hitler is famous but not popular. 希特勒很知名，但不受歡迎。
-The stand-up comedian was quite popular around our neighborhood but not famous in the field. 那個喜劇演員在我們社區蠻受歡迎，但在圈子裡不知名。
